SHILLINGSTONE STATION PROJECT

SHILLINGSTONE Railwayana

Since the idea for the Shillingstone Station Project was formed, various pieces of old railwayana from the station have been located All photographs on this page are copyright © M Rutter 2001-2005 unless otherwise stated.

This train lamp was on the last train ever to go traverse the S&DJR before it closed.  Someone very kindly donated it and it can be seen in the Parcel Shed Shop

A Volunteer found this enamel sign under a concrete block on the embankment just North of the station.  Originally sited on the "Saw Teeth" of the canopy the sign was missing in pictures shortly after the station was closed, so it could have been buried for up to 38 years.  Quite a miraculous survivor!!

Two signal arms kindly donated to the Trust by a committee member

A plate on the scales.

Both sides of a carriage board given to the trust by a visitor. This board "accidentally" fell off an express whilst stopped at Shillingstone.

During the Blandford Charter 400 railway exhibition of 15th and 16th October 2005 this Shillingstone Totem was brought in for use in the local railway memorabilia display. Owned by a local gentleman this totem is the 4th that we now have a picture of, this only leaves 2 more to track down.

Somerset & Dorset LSWR Cast Iron Mile Marker Set by McKenzie & Holland of Worcester. Comprises whole number 48, ¼, ½ and ¾ plates. Each embossed 'McK&HW L&SWR' and measuring approx.5½" x 9" with slightly scalloped corners. The mile markers were measured from Bath Junction running South.

Thus this set came from an area 48 miles from Bath Junction, the Blandford side of Shillingstone Station. Mile marker 48 was sited just North of Warren's Bridge (number 183) and the 48 3/4 marker was situated on the southerly side of Bridge number 185, Hodmoor Bridge, the third bridge to cross the River Stour.
