Books

The 40th anniversary of the closure of the S&D has really inspired people to publish some superb quality books about the Somerset & Dorset line.  The three publications mentioned in the last newsletter have now been joined by a fourth book: The Somerset and Dorset Remembered. Part 1. Back to Evercreech Junction. By Hugh Ballantyne.  Published by Book Law Publications. ISBN 1-901945-50-2. Selling at £19.99 (£22.50 mc. post and packing from our shop) this book is in colour and each of the 88 pages features a large colour photo taken by the author, with a caption underneath. The quality of the pictures is excellent and we are eagerly looking forward to part 2.

The Somerset and Dorset Remembered! Part 2  By Hugh Ballantyne. Published by Book Law Productions.  This features the south end of the line from Evercreech Junction to Bournemouth West.  £19.99

S&D Joint Railway by G Marsh £5.95

Dorset Railway Stations - old postcards - £3.50

Somerset Railway Stations - old postcards - £3.50

Somerset & Dorset - Sabotaged and Defeated - £9.95

Celebration of the Somerset & Dorset by Alan Hammond £20.00 plus £2,75 p&p

British Railway Pictorial: Somerset & Dorset Railway by David Cross £14.99 plus £2.75 p&p

This is an excellent book which was only possible because the author had the foresight to record the S&D route after closure, and he did it all in colour as well. It is very sad to see the needless destruction of the line, but this book provides an important record of this part of the history of the Somerset & Dorset Railway.

Sabotaged & Defeated by Jeffery Grayer £9.95
